If you’re into scary, you’ll love Shocktober Fest!

What an incredible evening last night! Despite living less than a 10 minute drive from this annual attraction, I’ve never gone to Shocktober Fest in West Sussex (south east England) which is Europe’s biggest scream park and one where people come from very far away to experience. I knew that it employs 250 actors each year to scare and entertain the visitors and I knew there were haunted attractions plus street food and entertainment but the buzz was amaaaaaazing!!

As its name suggests, this festival is perfect in the lead up to Halloween and is on until 2nd November. London Gatwick Airport is just a short distance away. Set in a farm, the huge attractions include the Haunted Hayride where you are taken in a tractor-led trailer around the woods where scary characters jump out at you and even come aboard! There’s the Circus of Horrors with the most hilarious (and very naughty!) MC and acts including sword swallowers and those who thrill at height and with fire. The Creepy Cottage is just terrifying with people scaring you at every turn. On that particular attraction, I found myself at the front of the queue and, when it was clear that I was standing by the entrance, I exclaimed “I’m not going first!” The Chop Shop is full of chainsaw-wielding monsters which, like many other of the attractions, is full of screams, strobe lighting and other special effects.

As well as the main attractions, there’s so much going on around the grounds such as street entertainers and live bands performing on stages. The number of catering outlets is incredible with everything from Chinese, jacket potatoes and vegan stands to crepes, waffles and sweets. You can easily spend 4-5 hours there and, although I came away just before the end, the night ends with many of the cast doing the Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. On the last evening of the season (2nd November), the night ends with a firework display.

If you live in the UK or you’re a short flight away, I’d encourage you to come and check out this amazing festival. It’s for people aged 12 and above although anyone under 15 has to be accompanied by an adult. You can read more about the festival here: https://www.shocktoberfest.co.uk/

This was yet another experience ticked off my bucket list and, goodness, what a fun one!! What do I have planned next? Check in this Sunday when I’ll tell you about my upcoming off-road driving experience 😊

Hope you all have a great week xx
