How is it April already?! January seemed to last for about 3 months, and then I must have blinked because I recall very little of February and March! However, March did see some progress on my bucket list, namely:
- sleep in a 4 poster-bed
- visit 2 English cities (Wells and Winchester)
- try 50 new foods (I’ve about 20 to go)
- train at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience
- visit two amazing UNESCO sites (Kew Gardens in Richmond and Stonehenge/Avebury)
- visit a film location (Hot Fuzz which was filmed in Wells).
Now, May is full of some incredible experiences like a cruise, a 6 day road trip around northern England, half a day handling owls, etc., so I’ve got so much to look forward to. However, it’s important to make sure that April gets recognised too so I’m going to set myself a couple of things to do.
One thing I’d like to do this month is to go to the British Museum.
Like many of London museums, entry is free and on Fridays, it’s open until 8.30pm which is when I plan to pop along. As well as some short-term exhibitions, there are over 8 million items in its permanent collection with artefacts from around the world although around 1% of these are on display to the public. The building itself combines a Greek facade along with more modern architecture as seen in the Reading Room and Great Roof. At over 92,000 squared metres, it makes the British Museum one of the world’s biggest libraries.
Along with the museum, I plan to have a drink in Neale’s yard. I hadn’t heard of this until about 2 years ago but it’s the most colourful courtyard in Covent Garden between Shorts Garden and Monmouth Street, and it has shops such as those selling healthy food. However, what attracts me to it is the bright colours on the buildings and windows.
So, I’m hoping that both of these will bring exciting photo opportunities and I’ll continue to try to get tickets for the Sky Garden in London which is free (but hard to get tickets as they’re only released for about a week in advance). Oh, and I’ve my accommodation to sort out for some of my Northern England Road Trip next month!
